They showed Jesus a coin. It had the emperors image stamped on it. Jesus said to the gathered people, “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and render unto God the things that are God’s.”
Of coarse, people of faith know that all things in heaven and earth are God’s.
Psalm 24, v. 1
The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it the world and all who dwell therein.
Nothing belongs to Caesar! So the responsibility of how to put to use “the gifts of God” is in our hands.
We are responsible for creation.
We are responsible for our sisters and brothers.
In the midst of our working out the particulars of how we manage God’s gifts, God is with us every step of the way as God was with Moses in the wilderness and St. Paul on his missionary journeys.
