Paul’s Letter to the Church in Colossae
In the last days of Paul’s life, he was held prisoner in the city of Rome. Because he was a Roman citizen, he was allowed certain privileges. He was allowed visitors including his personal physician, Luke. Because of his failing eyesight he was allowed to have a scribe.
During this time of imprisonment, Paul dictated many letters to churches in various parts of the empire. One of these “letters from prison” was addressed to the Christian community in Colossae, an inland city located in the area that is now Turkey. In this letter, Paul shares his personal experience of Christ in his life and encourages his readers to enter more fully into their faith experience. He warns them not to be led astray by certain religious teachers of that day.
This spring the Wednesday Morning Bible Study group will be reading and discussing this remarkable epistle. You are invited to join us for an hour of informal and lively discussion. The group meets in the parish library every Wednesday morning at 10:30.
